Undergraduate Programs
Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Music
Bachelor of Science (BS) in Music
This degree curriculum balances music studies with general studies. BA/BS students often go on to graduate school, private teaching, or a variety of non-music professions. Studies develop musicianship, capabilities in the use of principles and procedures that lead to an intellectual grasp of the art, and ability to perform. Sixty-six music credit hours are required of the 180 total credit hours for a BA/BS. Students wanting greater specialization can earn a certificate in performance, composition, or music instruction in lieu of the elective hours. All music majors must successfully complete 10 terms of Mus 165 Convocation. Passing the piano proficiency test is required of all music majors prior to the completion of the degree. Students must earn a grade of "C" (2.0) or better in all Mus and Mup courses.

Bachelor of Science (BS) in Music-Business
This is a co-degree with the School of Business which balances focused study of music and business. BS Music-Business Students go on to careers in a variety of fields including promotion, recording, performance, management, and music retail among others. Studies develop core skills in performance, theory, and skills related to the various fields. 49 music credit hours, 40 business credit hours, and 12 support course credit hours are required of the 180 total credit hours for a BA/BS. Music minor and non-major course offerings
Music minor course offerings include a selection of courses taken from the music Core Curriculum. Non-majors may participate in a number of course offerings, including: all ensembles (some by audition), all history classes, and class lessons in guitar, piano, and voice. Private lessons in piano, organ, voice, strings, and most wind and brass instruments, are available to qualified students as space allows.

Master of Arts in Teaching
Students who wish to teach music may enter the Master of Arts in Teaching Program following completion of a baccalaureate degree. SOU's MAT education program, one of the strongest in the Northwest, offers programs in elementary, secondary, and specialized education. Interested students may contact the Department of Education for more information on the MAT Program.
