Multicultural Affairs
At Southern Oregon University, we believe in the value of diversity and are committed to the inclusion of all members of the SOU community. Diversity is integral to the learning experience required to produce world citizens who are able to take their places in a global economy, in culturally diverse societies, and in working and living environments that will bring them into contact with persons very different from themselves.
Diversity is that part of education that capitalizes on the unique experiences and common wisdom of all cultures by providing a fertile ground for contrast and comparison. Diversity provides that view of other peoples so distinct from, yet similar to, ourselves that our own lives and experiences are given new perspective and meaning. Diversity is an enriching and necessary component of the total educational experience.
Southern Oregon University has an institution-wide commitment to a learning and working environment that promotes and achieves diversity reflective of the multiplicity of peoples, perspectives, cultures, classes and other societies encountered in our regional, national, and global community. We pledge ourselves to the pursuit of continuous learning through the exchange of rich and varied experiences purposefully sought via affirmative action in the recruitment and retention of a diverse university community.
