Stress Overload, Stress Reduction, Finding Balance

The weeks leading to finals.... equals stress overload for college students!  Study needs, due dates, and the accumulation of worry and concern over academic performance are  common stresses for college students this time of year. Short on sleep?  Increase in caffeine?  Easily irritable?  You are not alone.

Spring break is just ahead.  Are you planning on catching up on sleep, eating right, relaxing, hiking, swimming, visiting friends and family, and having "down time" ?  These are just some of the activities that can help restore balance to your body, mind, and emotions.  Finding balance is important.  Do you know your place of balance that brings you the most enjoyment in life?

Make spring break count!  Take care of yourself by making choices that honor your varied needs for socialization, connections, play time,  physical health, mental health, rest and most importantly safety.  The SHWC provides many services to help you learn to enjoy positive choices that honor the best in you.  Please make a visit to access a wide variety of educational information on just about any subject you might be curious about or interested in learning.  If we don't have materials on a particular subject, let us know and we will help find it for you.

How to Know When to Seek Help

Primary medical care and mental health professionals are employed by SOU and work within the SHWC.  Support can be beneficial through overly stressful times, times of loss, and times of transition.    If you are finding yourself worrying so much that it interferes with your level of enjoyment in life, or you are experiencing sadness and loss that you find relentless, it is important to seek support services to assist you in finding your own place of balance once again.

Students can call the SHWC at 552-6137 to request an appointment with a personal counselor or medical professional.
